Covered Law Enforcement: An Evangelistic Ministry

*This post is the second in a series written to cast the vision and convey the purpose of Covered Law Enforcement as a ministry.

Several years ago I read The Barbarian Way, a book written by Erwin McManus in which he talks about untamed faith – life as a passionate follower of Jesus Christ.  He begins the book with a quote from the movie Rocky III.  Rocky’s trainer, Mick, is quoted as saying, “But then the worst thing happened that could happen to any fighter, you got civilized.”  When Rocky was the “wild man” fighter, he won.  When he allowed politics, fame, fortune, and other “busy-ness” to influence and distract him – when he got civilized – he lost.

McManus speaks of the passion and excitement many of us have (and rightly so) when we first come to Christ.  We are excited about the transformation, and want to tell everyone.  We want them to experience what we’ve experienced.  But then, somewhere along the way as we become distracted by life, we often lose that passion to share the faith with others.

One thing is certain.  Our God is passionate about souls.  In the Old Testament, God says, “As surely as I live, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their way and live” (Ezekiel 33:11).  In the New Testament, God “is not willing that any perish but that all come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).  God sent His only Son to die so that “whosever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).  He did not send His Son to condemn the world, but that through Him the world would be saved (John 3:17).  The Scriptures are clear…God wants us to be saved and in relationship with Him.

In fact, “anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).  Nevertheless, Paul, in the very next verse, presents a challenging question.

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

So there it is.  Our task is to tell others about salvation through Jesus Christ so that they can believe and be saved.  We must not become civilized.  We must be passionate about seeing those who are not in relationship with Christ enter into relationship with Him.  We must have barbarian, untamed faith.

Covered Law Enforcement is a ministry that is passionate about souls.  The message to the “thin blue line” is that salvation is available through the blood of Jesus Christ.  The logo is a simple presentation of that message, and each product is another avenue by which the message can be presented.  It is my prayer that this passion for souls will spread throughout the profession, and that Covered will be a resource that creates opportunities and makes sharing the faith much easier.  Just remember, someone…you…must tell them.  Don’t get civilized.
