Just a few short weeks ago I had the wonderful privilege of attending the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers annual national conference in DeLand, FL. It was a tremendous blessing to fellowship with men and women of like faith and passion for the law enforcement profession. I met many wonderful people, and had the opportunity to share a message from my heart. I talked about ministering to and reaching the lost sinner, and explained the vision and mission of Covered Law Enforcement to that end. Please take a moment to view the online photo album that is on our Facebook page.
The ministry reached a great milestone this month as well. With the help of our newly established Board of Directors, I spent the past year organizing the ministry as a non-profit corporation, writing bylaws, and applying to the IRS for tax exempt status. I know that the vision for Covered Law Enforcement is great, and for some time I sensed the Lord directing me to formally organize in this way. We are now a fully exempt charitable organization under 501(c)3 of the IRS code! With that, as we are nearing the end of the year, please consider making your best tax-deductible financial contribution so that we can continue ministering to law enforcement families and their communities.
Since I mentioned them, please allow me to briefly introduce our Board of Directors. More will follow in the future, so let me simply say that I am blessed to serve alongside my wife Meredith Parker (Secretary), Sgt James Bradford Jr (Bradley County, TN Sheriff’s Office and Director of Security at North Cleveland Church of God), FTO Clay Tolson (Chattanooga Police Department), and Mr Jerry Godwin (“retired” business and marketing specialist with great wisdom, experience, and a passion for souls and this ministry). I hope over the next year to continue building a team that will work together to expand the ministry and fulfill our vision.
Another great accomplishment, with the help of LEO Nathan Ezzell of Virginia, has been the design of a new ministry t-shirt. Please take a moment to view the “Police Line Up” t-shirt design online. They are a powerful testimony to all who see, and we are already getting great feedback. With Christmas just a few short months away, now is the perfect time to purchase a shirt, wristband, or any of our other great ministry products!
With those things now completed, I feel that I can get back to more regular updates, blog posts, and focus on other ministry related activities. I am contacted almost weekly by those who want to connect and partner with us, take advantage of resources, or are encouraged by what we are doing. God is doing great things in and through Covered Law Enforcement!
Besides teaching and preaching regularly at my local church, I am scheduled to preach at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN on November 11, 2012 (11am). I will also be with Mike Dye (PeaceKeepers) and Pastor Mike Modica at First Assembly DeLand, FL on January 7-8, 2013 (6:30pm). If you are in the area, please come join me! I would also love to share the ministry of Covered Law Enforcement at your local church, civic group, banquet, etc. Please contact me so that we can discuss ways to partner and share this ministry.
I consider police officers to be missionaries in the truest sense. As I commented at lunch today with friends, law enforcement and military is very much generational…those serving have often followed in the footsteps of fathers, mothers, or other family members. The implication is that by reaching officers today, we are in many cases reaching and impacting their children who are the next generation of officers. As officers are transformed, they take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the streets of our communities. We must reach cops for Jesus Christ today! So, Covered Law Enforcement (and every ministry to this profession) is a missional, intergenerational, cross cultural, community ministry. What better ministry to support?! We should be the local missions outreach of every local church!
Please keep us in prayer and spread the word about our ministry. We need the support not just of officers, but of spouses, family and friends, church members…everyone! Become a fan on Facebook today, and stay in touch. Thank you for all of your prayers and support, and I pray God’s blessings upon you!
